CEN of the European Committee for standardization issued the European standard en16890:2017 for crib and crib mattresses in May 2017. In June 2021, cen issued the A1 amendment to the standard, and the European national standards organization bound by CEN / CENELEC rules must revoke the conflicting national standards in December 2021.
The standard and its amendments cover mattresses used in domestic and non domestic cribs, travel beds, cribs and hanging cribs, including bed base and bed top.
The amendment updates and corrects some provisions of the standard as follows:
• in the "chemical hazard" clause, the standard refers to en 71-3: 2019;
• since it is crucial that the size of the mattress is suitable for the crib or crib, the method of checking the nominal size has been revised in the revision, and now the tolerance of width and length is + 25 / - 0mm. The thickness shall also be indicated; And check to ensure that the thickness of the mattress does not exceed the nominal value;
• decorative stitches and quilts are explicitly excluded from strength and slip requirements, and the wording of "other fabrics" to be tested is given;
• limit the length or circumference of ropes and rings to prevent strangulation;
• the amendment also provides some additional information to ensure that the durability test is carried out in the same way at each test site.
The EU mattress standard en16890:2017 has been listed in the EU official gazette to show compliance with the general product safety directive, and its amendment will be announced soon. Please note that for the UK and EU member states where national legislation exists (e.g. Ireland and France), national legislation should be followed.
