Australia approved the revised safety standard 2021 for consumer goods (ejection toys)

The Australian government has adopted the proposed amendments to the mandatory safety standards for ejection toys. The new requirements will take effect on August 3, 2023. The following is the focus of the revision of the previous 2020 standard.

1. Replace sections 9 (2) (a) and 11 (2) (a) with:

"Delete paragraph 4.18.3 b)" instructions to provide users with information on how to use toys safely (see b.2.15). This requirement applies only to projectiles that may be aimed at the face (see e.32)


2. Add the following at the end of Chapter 9:

Delete clause 4.19.1 of the Australian / New Zealand toy safety standard that "remote control flying toys shall provide instructions on how to use toys safely (see b.2.26.2)".


3. Add the following at the end of Chapter 11:

Delete clause 4.19.1 of ISO toy safety standard: "remote control flying toys shall provide instructions on how to use toys safely (see b.2.26.2)".


4. Section 13 (1) is updated to read:

(1) This section is only applicable to ejection toys when all the following conditions are met

(a) Ejection toys may aim at the eyes or face;

(b) The distance of projectiles emitted by Projectile Toys exceeds 300 mm;

(c) The kinetic energy of the projectile launched by the projectile toy is greater than 0.08 J.


5. In section 13 (2), replace "and packaging" with "or packaging"


6. Section 13 (3) is updated to read:

(3) For subchapter (1), it shall be determined that:

(a) Whether the distance from the ejection toy to the ejection object will exceed 300 mm; perhaps

(b) Whether the kinetic energy of the projectile launched by the projectile toy will be greater than 0.08 J.
