Singapore Regulation Update - CPSO Announces Update of Safety Standards for Risky Control Products

As of June 1, 2021, The Consumer Protection, Weights and Measures Division of Enterprise Singapore officially changed its name to Consumer Product Safety. Weights and Measures Office.


The Consumer Product Safety Office(CPSO) is supervised by Enterprise Singapore and is responsible for the implementation of the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Ordinance (CPSR) and the Consumer Protection (Consumer Product Safety Requirements) Ordinance (CGSR). The Weights and Measures Office will be responsible for monitoring weighing and measuring instruments, as well as packaged goods, which are regulated by the law.


This change has no effect on certified products, ongoing cases, controlled products, or approved marks.

Updated testing standards for high-risk control products


On July 12, 2021, CPSO issued the latest notice, CPSO-120721-00, updating the safety standard requirements for high-risk controlled products under the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulation (CPSR).


The applicable safety standards for high-risk controlled products are updated in the following table. The transition period will be one year from the date of this circular, which will be mandatory from 13 July 2022.

The impact of the new standard


Registered supplier shall note that, from July 13, 2022, the applicable safety standard version of high-risk control products will no longer be accepted for new registration or renewal registration if the version listed above is lower than the above.


Products registered in accordance with the old version standards by July 12, 2022 can be extended until the existing COC certificate is invalid.
