Starting from January 1, 2021, the rules for placing electrical and electronic equipment on the market in the UK (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland are different.
In the UK and Northern Ireland, in order to protect the health of human and animals, many types of electronic and electrical equipment (EEE) are regulated to control the content of some harmful substances and chemicals contained in them.
● technical documentation to demonstrate compliance
● declaration of conformity
● mark the information required
Display appropriate qualifying marks for GB and / or Ni markets
UK and Northern Ireland regulations cover all eees, cables and spare parts, but exemptions include:
Some equipment for military use or specially designed for launching into space
Equipment not covered by regulations (indispensable products)
Large stationary industrial tools and Fixtures
● photovoltaic (solar) panels for permanent use in specific locations
Transportation vehicles (except some two wheeled electric vehicles)
Non road mobile machinery for professional use
Enterprise to enterprise products for R & D
The organ
● active implantable medical devices
● phthalates in medical devices and monitoring instruments until July 2021
In the UK and Northern Ireland, manufacturers, importers and distributors (including retailers) (referred to as economic operators) are responsible for the compliance of eees they provide in the market.
Within 10 years of the launch of the EEE, economic operators in Great Britain and Northern Ireland must be able to determine who provided the EEE.
Manufacturers placing EEE on the market in the UK and / or Northern Ireland must evaluate their production processes to ensure that their products do not exceed their limits for hazardous substances:
Restricted substances | limit |
Lead | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
Cadmiu | 0.01% (100 ppm) |
Mercur | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
Hexavalent Chromiu | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
PBBS | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
PBDEs | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
Bis (2-ethylhexyI) phthalate (DEHP) | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) | 0.1% (1000 ppm) |
A statement of conformity must be completed with technical documentation to demonstrate compliance, which must be retained for 10 years after the product is put on the market and provided to OPSS upon request.
Ukca mark is a kind of label. Under certain conditions, it should replace the CE mark on your product to put it into the UK market. Ukca stands for British conformity assessment.
