On August 4, 2021, the EU issued directive (EU) 2021 / 1297 in its official gazette, amending annex XVII of REACH Regulation (list of restricted substances in reach annex 17), replacing the original article 68 "perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)" (which has been transferred into EU pop regulation) with "perfluorocarboxylic acid with 9 ~ 14 carbon atoms in the carbon chain, salts and related substances". The regulation shall enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Gazette and shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable to all Member States.
At present, perfluorinated compounds have been detected in almost all environmental media (rivers, lakes, soil, atmosphere, drinking water, etc.) and biological systems, which seriously threatens human health and environmental safety. At present, many countries and regions around the world begin to prohibit or restrict the use of perfluorinated compounds.
GIG hereby suggests that enterprises should pay close attention to the requirements for perfluorinated compounds in the target market of their products (whether they are prohibited or restricted substances), avoid risks from the raw material link, prevent finished products from violating regulations, reduce compliance costs and smoothly circulate in the market.
