In June 2021, the European Commission drafted an executive resolution proposing resorcinol as a substance of high concern (SVHC).
Resorcinol is proposed to be added to the list of substances of high concern (SVHC) because it has endocrine disrupting properties and is likely to have a serious impact on human health, causing the same level of concern as the substances in points a to e of Article 57 of REACH Regulation (EC) no 1907 / 2006).
In February 2020, France proposed to identify resorcinol as a substance of high concern (SVHC). However, the proposal could not be agreed in the member state committee (MSc) of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). In July 2020, the views of the Committee of Member States (MSc) were submitted to the European Commission for further decision.
The European Commission concluded that there is scientific evidence that resorcinol is likely to have a serious impact on human health. Therefore, in June 2021, the European Commission drafted this executive resolution, proposing to identify resorcinol as a substance of high concern (SVHC). The European Commission will make a final decision in its commission procedures.
