In recent years, tableware materials made of melamine, bamboo, cornstarch and bamboo fiber mixed materials have been widely used in the production of tableware, especially children's tableware. Inferior melamine materials will release a large amount of free formaldehyde and melamine monomers, thus causing harm to the human body. Some bamboo fiber products also have a high migration rate due to the mixing of other materials during the production process. Bamboo products have frequently been on the list in the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) notifications in recent years. The following is an excerpt of typical case and our analysis and suggestions.

The main problems of unqualified bamboo fibre tableware are the excessive migration of melamine and formaldehyde. This means that melamine and formaldehyde will be removed from food during use, which will have a negative impact on health.
1. Enterprises should establish a traceable quality acceptance system for raw and auxiliary materials, and conduct regular inspection to control the source;
2. According to the relevant EU standards for production and processing, do not add other non-conforming additives to avoid export risks;
3. Strengthen the study of laws and regulations of exporting countries, gradually establish perfect technical barriers, and effectively improve product quality.
